Serial philanthropist and entrepreneur, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, on Friday, July 11, 2020 continued his streak of humanitarian activities when he donated food items and cash to all 33 registered care homes in Anambra state, comprising orphanages, homes for the aged, people living with sickle cell disorder and homes for the disabled.
The immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc made the donations at De Geo Gold Hotel, Awka as part of activities to mark his 50th birthday which comes upon Monday, July 20, 2020.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ozigbo expressed gratitude to God for how he has been blessed from being an ordinary village boy to becoming who he is today, a reason why he set up the Valentine Chineto Ozigbo Foundation in 2015 to cater for the needs of the not-so-fortunate.
He said: “This month, on the 20th, I will turn 50 and I want to use the rest of my youthful days to bring change now that I have the energy.
“I’m dedicating the rest of my life to impact humanity in ways that I have not done before. God has always blessed me and now is the time to pay back. So, I looked for those to celebrate my birthday with and I decided to celebrate with the care homes.”
Items donated by the leading aspirant in the 2021 Anambra governorship election include bags of rice, tomato paste, mayonnaise, soya bean cooking oil, noodles, and a cash sum of N700,000.
Mr. Ozigbo is not new to charitable deeds as the VCO Foundation celebrated last Christmas with by giving palliatives to about 600 widows in the state. In the same vein, when the COVID-19 scare was beginning to ravage parts of the country and affect economic activities, the foundation reached out to communities to give out hand sanitizers, face masks, foot items and more.
In her remarks, The National Coordinator of Association of People Living With Sickle Cell Disorder (APLSCD), Mrs Aisha Edward was grateful to Mr Val Chineto Ozigbo for choosing to identify with the sickle cell association in these trying times. She also adjured Mr. Val Ozigbo’s donations to be apolitical, but a kindhearted disposition towards the underprivileged, as was in his character for long.
